Youth Services

One of the most critical issues facing youth today is the high dropout rate, especially among Latino youth. The Youth Services programs at Friendly House work to address this critical issue to ensure our youth have the opportunities that a quality education affords and ensure that our children enter kindergarten ready to succeed.

TRiO Program

With the increasing enrollment of Hispanic youth in our schools, the high dropout rate among this population threatens the well-being of our community. It is critical to ensure our children are staying in school and going on for higher education, not only for their sake, but for the benefit of the entire community and the reason why the TRiO/Educational Talent Search Program is important for our children.

This program has been in existence since 2002 and our aim is to provide support and guidance to students and their families from 6th through 12th grades. The TRiO/Educational Talent Search Project is funded by the U.S. Department of Education and works to keep kids who otherwise would drop out of school, to stay in school and assists them to enroll into a post-secondary institution after High School. The program targets 600 students from our target schools who have the potential to attend a college or university, who are from low income backgrounds and are considered to be the first generation in their families to attend college.

Participants in the program are encouraged to complete secondary school and are provided the academic support, guidance and assistance needed to succeed in institutions of higher education. Some of the services provided to the students by the ETS program include; after school tutoring, time management skills, parent workshops, mentoring, study skills, cultural activities as well as a one week summer camp.

In order to qualify a potential participant must be a United States Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident or in the process of legalizing status, be between the ages of 11 – 27 and have completed the 5th grade. Early Childhood

Our Early Childhood Development Center provides quality daycare for children as early as six weeks old up to five years of age. The main purpose of the program is to ensure that all of our participant’s cognitive, social, emotional and physical needs are developed through age appropriate activities.

We count on a caring, experienced and professional staff who make every effort to ensure that the children are well cared for and receive a warm and educational experience. Our ultimate goal for the children who come through our doors is to get them ready for each step of development and culminating in the kids leaving our center ready to be successful when they enter kindergarten.

We are housed in a beautiful facility located at 201 W. Durango Street, Phoenix, AZ 85004 and are very fortunate to have as a next door neighbor “Academia del Pueblo Elementary School”. We have a great partnership and are able to utilize playground equipment, classrooms, athletic field, library and computer labs, and share their great cafeteria staff.

The program is licensed through the Arizona Department of Health Services and is a contracted childcare provider with the Arizona Department of Economic Security. The program maintains a partnership with the City of Phoenix Head Start program.
