Since 1920, Friendly House has offered classes in English literacy to serve foreign-born members of the community from all racial and ethnic backgrounds. These services continue today under the Adult Education Program, which has expanded and evolved into one of Arizona’s most successful programs.
The Adult Education Program provides access to quality educational opportunities to support employment, job training, and higher education aspirations. By assisting adult learners in acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary for effective participation in society, Friendly House creates an exceptional future for Arizona, where citizens transform their lives and realize their full potential.

ESOL Program
We offer free ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes, provided by the Arizona Department of Education. These classes are designed to help adult learners improve their English skills for everyday life, work, and community involvement.
Eligibility Requirements
- 16 Years of Age or Older
- Lawfully Present in the United States
- Arizona Resident
Program Levels
Our ESOL program offers four levels, from beginning to advanced.
- Level 1 is for students with little or no English and focuses on basic vocabulary and everyday communication.
- Level 2 builds speaking, reading, and writing skills.
- Level 3 focuses on improving grammar, reading, writing, and conversation skills.
- Level 4 helps students develop advanced communication skills for work and community settings.
Class Schedule
Classes meet twice a week for two hours, with schedule options on Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday.
Classes are offered at morning, noon, and evening times to fit different schedules.

GED Prep Program
Our GED® Preparation Program helps adult learners build the skills needed to earn a high school equivalency (HSE) credential. In addition to GED® preparation, we also explore other HSE pathways to help students choose the option that best fits their goals.

IET Program

Class Schedule
Classes meet twice a week for two hours on Tuesday and Thursday.
Classes are offered in person in the mornings and online in the evenings.
The Integrated Education and Training (IET) program combines adult education, workforce preparation, and job-specific training into one coordinated learning experience. Students build basic academic or English language skills while also learning essential workplace skills and receiving hands-on training for a specific career pathway. This integrated approach helps learners earn industry-recognized credentials and prepares them for employment or continued education.
Credentialing Information
Our Integrated Education and Training (IET) program uses NRF Foundation RISE Up® certificates, nationally recognized credentials developed by the National Retail Federation. These certificates prepare students for real-world jobs by teaching essential skills such as customer service, sales, workplace communication, and supply chain fundamentals. NRF credentials are valued by employers across retail and service industries and help students gain confidence, build career-ready skills, and improve their chances of employment or advancement. By earning an NRF certificate, students take a strong step toward a successful career pathway.
